USA: Scholarships at Saint Joseph's University

Greetings from Saint Joseph's University!

First I would like to provide some background information about Saint Joseph's University for those of you not already familiar with the University. With approximately 40 different programs of study, 100 different extracurricular activities, and a location in the United States' sixth largest metropolitan area, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Saint Joseph's has a lot to offer! As a private Catholic, Jesuit University, students will obtain a well-rounded liberal arts background, in addition to mastering their particular area of study. Saint Joseph's University has been listed as one of the best in the east by Princeton Review and one of the top ten in our area by U. S. News and World Report.

I encourage you and your students to explore the website www.sju.edu to obtain more information and, if SJU seems to be a good fit, please direct your students to the Office of Admissions web page www.sju.edu/admissions and the International Students section to get them started with the application process. Students must send in the application, essay, resume or CV, one letter of recommendation, an official transcript from their secondary school, and their test scores (SAT, ACT, TOEFL, or IELTS). The deadline for students to apply who wish to begin in the fall semester (August 2010) is February 1, 2010, however we encourage students to begin the application process as early as possible

All students, including international students, are automatically considered for merit-based scholarships when they apply if they take the SAT or ACT exam.

For international students in the Asia-Pacific region who apply and are admitted to Saint Joseph's University prior to February 1, 2010, we hold an essay writing competition at the United States Embassy in Singapore. Each year, the top essay competition winner is granted a full tuition scholarship for four years of study at SJU and the second place winner is granted a 2/3 tuition scholarship for four years of study at SJU. Applying early and participating in the annual essay writing competition (held in mid-February) opens up students to the possibility of higher
scholarship awards. (Please note, the scholarships awarded to the competition winners will replace any previously awarded merit-based scholarships, they will not be combined with lesser scholarships.) Winners of the competition will be announced in mid-March.

Please, do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions regarding application processes, deadlines, or any other questions pertaining to Saint Joseph's University. You may also contact Ms. Rachel M. Johnson, Assistant Director of International Admissions, who resides in Philadelphia and reviews all international applications (rachel.johnson@ sju.edu or 001-610-660- 1356).

Thank you and we look forward to working with you!

Sincerely,

Margaret Hartman
