Bucerius Law School in Hamburg, Germany
In the international economy, there is a steadily-growing demand for attorneys and managers who have a command of both legal and economic issues. Despite this demand, few educational institutions offer programs of study that analyze the legal and economic fields in a targeted and integrated manner.
Beginning August, 2006, Bucerius Law School and the WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management will be jointly offering a one-year, English-language Master in Law and Business (MLB) program. The MLB is truly a “joint” degree, combining numerous aspects of international business law with issues of international management. Because course participants will be trained systematically in both the legal and economic fields, they will obtain a unique ability to analyze the ever-increasing number of international business issues that involve both legal and economic elements.
Applicants to the MLB program must have successfully completed a first degree in law or economics. As the program is designed for jurists in particular, economists applying to the program should have some prior knowledge of legal affairs. Prior professional experience is welcomed, but is not a prerequisite to participation.
As all MLB activities are conducted in English, strong English language skills (as evidenced by TOEFL, IELTS or CPE scores) are required. Although participants need not speak German, the program does offer a basic course in German-language skills. While many participants will come from outside of Germany, the program is also open to German participants with an initial law or business degree from Germany or abroad.
The Bucerius/WHU Master of Law and Business Programm is substantially supported by:
a.. UBS Deutschland AG
a.. Claussen-Simon- Foundation
a.. Marga und Kurt Möllgaard-Foundation
The MLB program offers some financial aid to selected students in the form of a partial waiver of tuition.
Three additional, external merit-based scholarships are available to highly qualified applicants:
a.. The Marga and Kurt Möllgaard-Stiftung provides two full scholarships to highly qualified students from Central and Eastern Europe. In addition to covering all tuition costs, these scholarships provide an additional € 5000 to cover living expenses during the one year of studies.
a.. There is one scholarship available from a Hamburg-based entrepreneur covering tuition for an MLB student from Asia.
All eligible applicants from Central and Eastern Europe or Asia will automatically be considered for these external scholarships.
