CfA: Contemporary Diplomacy Scholarships for Roma

Contemporary Diplomacy Scholarships for Roma

DiploFoundation, in cooperation with the European Roma Grassroots Organisation (ERGO), is pleased to offer up to 4 scholarships for Roma participants

in the 2007 Postgraduate Diploma in Contemporary Diplomacy, offered and accredited through the University of Malta.

The Programme

This is a year-long programme designed for diplomats, civil servants, employees of international and non-governmental organisations and others involved

in international relations. It is delivered through a combination of a workshop and online learning: participants come to Malta for 10 days in February 2007,

and then return home and complete the programme by selecting five online courses over the duration of a year. For full details on the programme please

visit http://www.diplomac y.edu/edu/ pgd.

The programme requires a serious time commitment during the year, with a minimum of 10 hours of study time required each week.

Participants who successfully complete the Postgraduate Diploma are eligible to apply to write an MA dissertation and obtain a Master of Arts

in Contemporary Diplomacy. At the moment, no scholarship support is available for the MA - participants choosing to continue to the MA must

support their own studies.

The Scholarships

Scholarships may cover full programme fees, including accommodation and meals in Malta, but do not cover flights to Malta for the introductory

workshop. Participants are encouraged to seek a financial contribution from their employers to support their travel expenses or contribute to

their studies.

Scholarship recipients are expected to show a serious commitment to their studies. Candidates should not submit applications unless they are prepared

to dedicate the required time to complete the programme.

Requirements for Applicants

- Roma origin;

- undergraduate degree from a recognised university;

- demonstrated commitment to working on Roma issues at the community, national or international level;

- sufficient English language ability to undertake postgraduate level studies;

- unrestricted access to the Internet with Internet Explorer 6.00 or higher, from a computer running a Microsoft Windows operating system.

Preference will be given to female applicants, applicants from developing Eastern European countries, and applicants under the age of 35.

The organisers have the right not to award scholarships if they do not feel the applications meet the requirements.

To Apply

Please visit http://www.diplomac y.edu/Edu/ PGD/application. asp and follow the application instructions. Only complete applications will be considered.

In addition, applicants for the Roma scholarships must include a one page motivation letter explaining their reasons for wishing to study diplomacy, and

how they believe this will help them in their work related to Roma issues.

The application deadline is October 10, 2006. All application documents must be received by this time.

Selection Process

Applications will be first reviewed by Diplo and ERGO staff, and selected applications will then be submitted to the University of Malta.

Successful applicants will be notified by early January, 2007, at the latest.
