PhD Studentship in Electronic Sensing - University of Huddersfield and Manchester, UK

PhD Research Studentship
Electromagnetic Sensing and Imaging for the Smart Detection of Guns and Knives
Systems Engineering Group, School of Computing and Engineering

A PhD studentship is available to work in the area of electromagnetic sensing and imaging for the Smart Detection of Guns and Knives. The student will work closely with one EPSRC funded research associate and the project will be run in conjunction with the Universities of Huddersfield and Manchester, Queen Mary University London and Leeds Metropolitan University.

The project will involve researching and developing electromagnetic sensor arrays and signal processing algorithms for remote metal detection and the identification of concealed guns and knives.

You should have a good degree in mathematics, physics or electronics. You would be considered to be advantageous if having relevant and demonstrable research experience and some publications on international journals or conferences.

We also have other studentship posts in the research group in the area of electromagnetic modelling and non-destructive testing & evaluation. Candidates, from the EU, should hold a 1st class or high upper second class UK honours degree (or any EU equivalent) in Physics, Electronic Engineering or a related discipline, non-EU students may also apply for studentship( s).

The studentship( s) are offered averagely at the rate of £12,000 per year, plus tuition fees. The post is available immediately. To apply, please send a covering letter, your CV (including publications and details of research your carried out) and the contact details of two referees via e-mail as soon as you can but by no later than 15 September 2006 to Professor Gui Yun Tian at g.y.tian@hud. ac.uk
