GEMMA is the first Erasmus Mundus Master in Women's and Gender Studies in Europe and therefore the achievement of long years of efforts trying to advance in the tuning of the diverse educational structures and create a common curricula in gender studies. The eight partner institutions represent seven European countries with different locations and cultures across all Europe: University of Granada (Spain, coordinator), University of Bologna (Italy), Central European University of Budapest (Hungary), University of Hull (UK), Institutum Studiorum Humanitatis, Ljubljana (Slovenia), University of Lodz (Poland), University of Oviedo (Spain) and University of Utrecht (the Netherlands) . GEMMA is thus the fine tuning of North European, South European and Central European higher education institutions where Women's and Gender studies is one of the main elements in their postgraduate programmes. The languages used by the Consortium universities will be English, Italian and Spanish.

This Master is a joint European multidisciplinary programme which provides high quality academic education and professional competencies for students wanting to conduct further research or intending to work in the areas of Women's Studies, Gender Studies and Equal Opportunities. It collects the best courses both from humanities and social sciences, making it attractive to students and offering a wide span of options and combinations. Courses are taught by the most distinguished and highly recognised professors in the field at each of the institutions. The programme provides an opportunity to acquire professional qualifications and to benefit from mobility as students are expected to study at different European universities. This
inter-university and interdisciplinary postgraduate programme gives a unique possibility to obtain a double diploma from the home and partner institution acknowledged by all Consortium members. The two-year programme starts in September 2008 and will accept both students from the European Union and Third Countries.
