We are pleased to inform you that EUROLINK-House of Europe, in partnership with Détente Consultants (Paris) will organise in the period 10-16 July 2008 the first edition of the European Summer University, entitled: "The Fulfillment of Excellence Standards in the Tourism, Sustainable and Rural Development in Central & South-Eastern Europe". The event will take place at the Visiting Center of the Mures Floodplain National Park, Arad. The project will benefit of the kind support of the Visiting Center Ceala Forest (Forestry Directorate Arad), the Center for Rural Assistance (Timisoara) - Member of Soros Open Network Romania and RuralNet, Structural Consulting Agency, LEADER (The National Rural Development Network) - The Managing Authority within the Romanian Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

The main EU guest-lecturers from Détente Consultants (Paris) - leader enterprise in the field of consultancy in entertainment industry, tourism and culture in Europe - are: the President-General Manager, Mr. Joseph TOMATIS, specialist in development strategies, project management and training in tourism, market research, complex and financial audit of tourism companies; Mr. Patrick VICERIAT, Senior Consultant, expert in marketing strategies for leisure hospitality destinations, branches and equipments, e-tourism strategies, project management for public and private entities, strategic and commercial/technica l assistance for innovative companies, tourism branding, coaching and training of tourism operators; and the Representative for Eastern Europe, Mr. Jamil BENABDALLAH, specialist in sustainable development and new IT technologies in tourism.

The main topics to be approached are the following:

A. The Touristic Development

- the marketing of tourism: How to build a prestigious brand in the field of tourism?

- the management of a touristic destination: Definition and examples of schemes in the field of tourism development; Means of repositioning strategy for the sea destinations (ex.: Black Sea Coast); Creating a Strategy for Urban Tourism; Best practices for methods to improve legislation and create fiscal benefits in favour of the tourism industry; Managing the lack of human resources in the Romanian hospitality industry and to favour the education of personnel in this sector.

- the training of project managers for touristic projects: Methodology for the feasibility studies within the spa resorts projects and business tourism (study cases).

B. The Rural Development

- how European Union encourages innovation in rural areas - local development case studies.

- the fundamental principles of the LEADER Programm approach - the need for a local strategy, building a public-private partnership; the bottom-up approach; the assimilation into the different sectors of the rural economy; the support of innovative approaches; the support of cooperation projects; setting-up networks and actors.

- the guide of best practices in the field of rural development

C. The Sustainable Development and Eco-Tourism

- the concept of sustainable development and its related implications for the rural and eco-tourism development.

- methods to improve the sustainable development in Romania and its neighboring area.

- eco-tourism: a unique opportunity for the development of Romania: eco-certified products, specialised programs, recommended destinations.

- the EU regulatory framework according to the Göteborg Agenda and EU Strategic Guide - study case on Natura 2000 Program; the Structural Funds in favour of strategic development and eco-tourism.

Target countries: Romania; other countries: Armenia, Azerbaidjan, Bulgaria, Croatia, Georgia, Hungary, Kosovo, Macedonia, Republic of Moldova, Muntenegro, Serbia, Turkey. The maximum number of participants is 30 persons.
