PhD Logistics Modelling of International Pork Supply Chains
Wageningen, 6706 KN, (Gelderland), 38 hours per week Wageningen University and Researchcentre
Job description
The Integrated Project Q-Porkchains is a large EU funded international research and development program that aims to improve the competitive position of the European pork industry. Wageningen University and Research Centre is one of the key partners in this program. The Wageningen UR Operations Research and Logistics (ORL) group focuses on the design of sustainable logistics systems for the European pork sector.
The PhD project aims at the design of models for logistics chain and cross-chain network optimization to reduce current inefficiencies, lower costs and increase added value through better matching of production systems, processing systems and market segments. The perspective will be global, as pork industries are not limited to European borders. The project includes three phases: (1) state of the art analysis of logistics and distribution concepts in different European pork chains in collaboration with researchers from a number of European countries, (2) definition of pork chain and distribution network improvement opportunities in selected pork chains (scenario development). Case studies must provide in-depth insight into typical logistics and distribution challenges of different types of chains, (3) Set-up and analysis of logistics network models, especially related to the specific characteristics and demands of the European pork chain, resulting in improved logistics network designs.
The PhD student will work in close collaboration with other Q-Porkchain PhD students at Wageningen University and University of Bonn (Germany) on chain quality systems, chain governance and on chain information systems.
