PhD: Physico-Chemical Modeling of Processing of Polymeric Films for Special Applications - Department of Polymer Engineering, University of Akron, USA

This PhD project aims at modeling and optimization of casting processing of polyimide films. This is a part of multi-million project with much industrial collaborations. Two types of processes will be analyzed. The first one is the casting processing of polyimide acid photovoltaic films, and the second one is processing of high strengths polyimide films reinforced by functionalized carbon nanofibers. In both cases there are two main objectives: (i) to develop a theoretical models of the casting process for photo-voltaic and high-strength film applications, taking into account its main features: kinetics of imidization, non-isothermality, and film drying; and (ii) employing the theoretical models, to develop processing optimization, using required parameters of final film-product as goal functions in optimization.

The candidates should have Chemical Engineering background and skillful in computer oriented modeling. The successful candidates will be fully supported with the stipend about $24K per year, additionally to tuition waver.
