CfA: Building Coalitions to Build States: The Lessons of the Balkans

The conference will bring together more than two dozen scholars and senior practitioners with extensive experience in the Balkans, Iraq and Afghanistan and other regions to take stock of the extensive international state-building enterprises and to examine what has worked and what has fallen short of intended goals.

We seek proposals from Ph.D. candidates in advanced stages of dissertation research to participate in a three-day conference titled “Building Coalitions to Build States: The Lessons of the Balkans, Iraq, and Afghanistan” to be held at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, MA from October 14 – 16, 2010. With the generous support of
the American Council on Learned Societies (ACLS), the conference will provide transportation and accommodation funding for five graduate students to participate in the conference and a half-day mentoring workshop.
