PhD POSITIONS IN PHYSICS
Call for Applications

The Polarized Target Group at the Physics Institute of the University of Bonn invites applications for two Phd positions. The group activity concerns the development, construction, and operation of polarized solid target systems at the local accelerator (ELSA) or at external facilities (COSY - Juelich, MAMI - Mainz).

PhD projects can be agreed on any of the group research subjects, which include:
- Dilution refrigerator systems for operation of polarized solid targets in Frozen-Spin mode.
- Design, construction and test of high field homogeneity superconducting magnets.
- Study and test of new target materials suitable for operation in a high
intensity beam.
- Microwave systems to dynamically polarize the targets.
- NMR systems to measure the target polarization.

The applicants should have a master's degree or diploma in physics. Experience in experimental research as well as in the group activities would be an asset, though not a requirement. Applicants should send a CV, publication list, description of research interests, and arrange for the submission of two letters of recommendation, to:

Dr. Hartmut Dutz
Physikalisches Institut der Universität Bonn
Nussallee 12
53111 Bonn
Germany

Applications by email are welcome and should be addressed to: dutz@uni-bonn. de

Informal inquiries are welcome.

The positions are available immediately. Applications will be accepted until the positions are filled. Ph.D. students are offered a working contract and are paid according to the German Public Service standards, 1/2 BAT IIa for 3 years. Applications for the positions are open to students from all countries. Women and minorities are particularly encouraged to apply.
