Applied Bioconjugation Research Fellow (Dublin City University, Ireland)

Seeking an ambitious and highly motivated researcher to drive the application and development of bioconjugation methods in a multidisciplinary environment.

Based at Dublin City University (DCU), the Biomedical Diagnostics Institute (www.bdi.ie) was established in 2005 through a Science Foundation Ireland Centre for Science, Engineering & Technology award, in addition to significant industry funding. The Biomedical Diagnostics Institute (BDI) carries out cutting-edge research focused on the development of next-generation biomedical diagnostic devices measuring indicators of disease. Our world-class research team currently includes six industry partners (Analog Devices, Åmic, Enfer Technologies, Hospira, Becton Dickinson & Inverness Medical Innovations) and four academic institutions (the Royal College of Surgeons Ireland (RCSI) in Dublin, the National Centre for Biomedical Engineering Science (NCBES) at NUI, Galway, the Tyndall National Institute (TNI) in Cork and the host institution at Dublin City University (DCU)).

An opportunity now exists for an ambitious and highly motivated researcher to drive the application and development of bioconjugation methods across a number of BDI research programmes. Extensive experience in the labelling of biomolecules (antibodies, proteins, carbohydrates and nucleic acids), with a broad range of labels (fluorescent, luminescent, redox active organic molecules, metal complexes) is essential. Experience in the immobilization of biomolecules on surfaces would also be useful. Experience in working with nanostructures, e.g., metal and inorganic nanoparticles, carbon nanotubes etc, would be particularly welcome. The ideal person is one who can combine existing methodologies with new applications and has the ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment.

The successful candidate will play a critical role in contributing to multiple interdisciplinary teams, combining academic and industry researchers, working towards the development of next-generation point-of-care diagnostic devices.
