CfP: Routledge Studies in Extremism & Democracy

We want to draw your attention to the Routledge Studies in Extremism & Democracy, the book series Roger Eatwell and I edit for Routledge and the Standing Group. Since its start in 2002, we have already published more than ten titles and there are various others in print and under contract. An overview of most of the titles can be found on this (still fairly basic) website:

Recently Roger, Craig Fowlie (editor of Routledge) and I met to discuss the future of the series. We all agreed that the Routledge Studies in Extremism & Democracy has been very successful so far and should be continued. From individual feedback we know that the series is highly regarded and very well-received within the community of specialist scholars, which strengthens us in our activity. To ensure that the series continues to publish books of interest and value to scholars and students of extremism and democracy, we welcome your feedback. We are also always open to book proposals on relevant topics. We are particularly interested in:

a) TEXTS. We are keen to sign more texts, especially higher level ones, and topics could include: democracy; extremism; fascism; extreme right; religious fundamentalism etc. A text might also combine topics - e.g. challenges/threats to democracy. Ideally the proposer should already be teaching such a course, but someone planning one would be fine.

b) EDITED WORKS. Some of the topics we were thinking of in this respect are: i) Islamism in various Western countries (Britain, France, Germany, USA); ii) different forms of religious fundamentalism; iii) responses to 9/11 and their impact upon liberal democracy in different countries; iv) neo-populist actors in Latin America.

c) SINGLE COUNTRY STUDIES. Given commercial constraints, we are thinking here (exclusively) about studies of large countries, such as India and the BJP, Japan and the extreme right, Russia and the extreme right, etc.

All feedback and proposals should be emailed to all three editors: Roger Eatwell (r.eatwell@bath. ac.uk), Craig Fowlie (craig.fowlie@ tandf.co. uk) and Cas Mudde (cas.mudde@ua. ac.be).

Warm regards,

Cas
