The Karman Center for Advanced Studies in the Humanities of Bern University (Switzerland) offers three two-year doctoral research positions (from 1 October 2006 to 30 September 2008) in Anthropology, Contemporary History or Historical Anthropology in the context of an interdisciplinary research project entitled: Settlers, Imperialism, Genocide.
Requirements: Applicants should hold a high-quality Master`s (or equivalent) degree in anthropology, history, or a related discipline in the social sciences and humanities, and demonstrate project-relevant linguistic competence. Applications from women scholars are encouraged. No restriction of regional interest or nationality applies.

Conditions: The stipend for doctoral/graduate students ranges from 32,000 to 36,000 CHF (Swiss Francs) per annum. In addition, support for the organisation of meetings, conferences and international collaboration is offered. Travel or fieldwork expenses may be covered depending on the needs of individual projects. Residence for all team members, at least during term, is, in principle, required. The working languages at the Karman Center are German, English, and French.
