PhD Studentship
Slavery, Reparations and Restorative Justice
University of Hull Wilberforce Institute for the study of Slavery and Emancipation (WISE)

We wish to award one fully funded PhD studentship to commence in September 2006 or as soon as possible thereafter. The studentship is for three years of full-time study. The studentship will enable the recipient to complete a programme of doctoral research - relevant to the theme 'Slavery, Reparations and Restorative Justice' - and gain a doctoral degree.

The successful applicant will:

* Have a first degree (usually an honours degree from a recognised Higher Education Institution) and normally a masters degree in History, Law, Sociology or other relevant discipline (or similar postgraduate qualification).
* Demonstrate the capability and diligence required to complete a PhD by research within the period of the award.
* Receive, and be expected to undertake, relevant training in advanced research skills.
* Be supervised and supported by internationally recognised experts in slavery studies and restorative justice.

Supervision will be provided jointly by experts in restorative justice and slavery studies. These include:

The studentship includes waiver of all fees and a stipend of £12,300 per annum.
