PhD position in Bandgap Engineering and Modelling of Quantum Dots
In connection with the launching of a large interdisciplinary research project, we seek a strong candidate for the 3-year PhD scholarship in the area of bandgap engineering and modelling of quantum dots. The successful candidate will have a M.Sc. degree (or equivalent) in theoretical physics, mathematics, or computational chemistry (preferable background is in solid state physics and semiconductor
applications with strong modelling skills). The position involves computational aspects of bandstructure calculations such as calculations of strain, piezoelectric properties, dipole moments, optoelectronic applications, optimization of quantum-confined semiconductor heterostructures in terms of geometry and material choices. The position includes close collaboration with experimentalists working under the same research program, as well as collaboration with colleagues in North America participating in the project. Previous background in bandstructure methods and modelling techniques related to that would be looked upon favorably.
The successful candidate will be located in the new building of the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) in Sonderborg and will spend 6 months of his/her PhD studies outside of Denmark.
Preliminary email applications are encouraged (primary contact: Prof. Morten Willatzen, willatzen@mci.sdu.dk or in North America: Prof. Roderick Melnik, rmelnik@wlu.ca). However, the applicant must send a hard copy of the application in triplicate, including CV, list of publications, M.Sc. certificate with grades, and names and addresses of 2-3 references to
"Director Anders Bjarklev, COM-DTU, Technical University of Denmark, Orsteds Plads, Building 345V, DK-2800 Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark".
