PhD Studentship in the Economic Impacts of Major Transport Investment

Applications are invited for a PhD studentship working in the area of the economic impacts of major transport investment, under the supervision of Dr Dan Graham. The aim of the research is to investigate the links between transport investment and agglomeration and, in particular, to quantify the magnitude of any productivity
benefits that may arise from the introduction of new transport initiatives in London, due to changes in the strength of agglomeration externalities.
This studentship forms part of a co-ordinated PhD research programme being supported by Transport for London at Imperial College London, University College London and the University of Westminster.
The studentships comprise a bursary for three years, initially at £15,000 per year, together with College fees at the home/EU rate. In the case of exceptionally well qualified and motivated candidates from outside the EU, consideration may be given to covering all or part of the overseas College fee.
The Centre for Transport Studies comprises six academic staff and a vibrant community of over 50 doctoral students and post doctoral researchers undertaking research across a broad range of topics, including transport demand modelling, transport policy and regulation, transport operations, transport and the environment, transport safety, intelligent transport systems, railway operations and management, air transport operations and control, and maritime logistics. Applicants for the studentship should have or expect to obtain a first or upper second class honours degree or equivalent, in a relevant aspect of economics, mathematics, statistics, civil engineering, geography or a closely related discipline. A Master's degree in a relevant subject would be advantageous, but is not essential.
