Research Posts in Vascular Biology (University College Dublin, Ireland)

Applications are invited for a number of postdoctoral, technician and postgraduate candidates to work on Science Foundation Ireland (SFI)- and the Health Research Board (HRB), Ireland- funded research in vascular biology in Professor Therese Kinsella's group, UCD School of Biomolecular & Biomedical Science located at the Conway Institute, UCD.

Closing date for receipt of applications is no later than noon, 14th July 2006. Please note that applications received after this time will not be considered.

Cardiovascular disease is one of the major causes of morbidity and premature mortality in western societies. The prostanoids thromboxane and prostacyclin play key, yet opposing roles, in vascular homeostasis and are widely associated as mediators of vascular disease. For the past decade or so, Professor Kinsella's group (http://www.ucd.ie/sbbs/staff/kinsella_therese/index.html) has been studying the mechanisms of intracellular signaling by the thromboxane and prostacyclin receptors, aka TP and IP, respectively, and in the modes of regulation of their cognate receptor genes. Through an SFI funded Principal Investigator grant, a number of posts at the postdoctoral, technical and postgraduate levels have arisen to carry out a detailed proteomic evaluation of the key molecular targets that interact with the alpha (TPa) and beta (TPb) isoforms of the human thromboxane receptor (TP) and with the prostacyclin receptor (IP) thereby aiming to obtain a detailed functional characterization of those key receptors within the vasculature. In addition, through a HRB funded Project grant, posts have arisen at the postdoctoral and postgraduate levels to carry out a detailed genomic characterization of the factors regulating the human prostacyclin receptor gene.

A combination of experimental approaches of molecular and cell biology, intracellular signaling studies, proteomics and genomics will be applied throughout. The successful applicants will joint a dynamic team of researchers working in related areas of vascular biology and prostanoid research at the state-of-the-art facilities at the Conway Institute http://www.ucd.ie/conway/about_overview.html.

Postdoctorate & Research Assistant applicants should have expertise in molecular & mammalian cell biology & signalling and/or in the control of gene expression. Applications for PhD posts are invited from honours graduates of Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Genetics or related discipline. Highly competitive remunerations will be offered for all posts, commensurate with the applicant's expertise and qualifications.
