Ph.D position in catalysis for natural gas conversion: in-situ polymerization on carbon nanomaterials - Norwegian University of Science and Technology

One Ph.D fellowship is available on in-situ polymerization on carbon nanofibers (CNF) and nanotubes (CNT), in the catalysis group, Department of Chemical Engineering, NTNU. The fellowship is mainly supported by the Norwegian Research Council and Norwegian Industry.

CNF/CNT will be used as supports for polymerization catalysts. Different polymers (mostly polyethylene and polypropene) will be grown on the surface of carbon nanomaterials. The high loading of CNF/CNT in the polymer/CNF composite will be used for reinforcement and functionalization of polymers. The objective of the Ph.D project is to prepare and characterization of CNT/polymer composites. The reaction conditions and fuctionalization of CNF and CNT will be optimized in terms of thickness of the polymer layer deposited on CNF and CNT. The candidate will work together with several Ph.D students and postdoc. in the group of carbon nanomaterials.

The subject is within the priority areas of natural gas conversion/catalysis/nanotechnology at the Department and will be carried out in close cooperation with industrial and academic partners. More detailed information of the project can be found on the webpage: http://www.nt.ntnu.no/users/chen/

Funding Notes
The scholarships are for maximum 4 years and a background in chemical engineering, material science, physics or chemistry is preferred. The PhD-appointment is at salary code 1017, entry salary level 41 in the national salary scheme, gross NOK. 310 500 per annum (1 NOK ~ 0.125 EUR), of which 2% is deducted for the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.
