Ph.D position in Catalysis for natural gas conversion: catalysis in sorption enhanced reforming - Norwegian University of Science and Technology

One Ph.D fellowship is available on hydrogen production by sorption enhanced reforming of different hydrocarbons, at the catalysis group, Department of Chemical Engineering, NTNU. The fellowship is mainly supported by the Norwegian Research Council and Norwegian Industry.

Removal of CO2 during steam reforming reactions can shift chemical equilibrium towards hydrogen production. The key in the process development is the development of more efficient CO2 acceptors and catalysts. The main objective of the present work is to improve the material stability by a multidisciplinary approach which combines development of new preparation methods, detailed characterization such as SEM, TEM, XRD and XPS etc., and detailed kinetic study. Development of new bimetallic catalysts to improve the coking resistance of the reforming catalysts is another important objective of the project. The candidate will work in a group with several other Ph.D students, postdoc., master students and our industrial partners in the same research area.

The subjects are within the priority areas of natural gas conversion/catalysis/nanotechnology at the Department and will be carried out in close cooperation with industrial and academic partners. More detailed information of the project can be found on the webpage: http://www.nt.ntnu.no/users/chen/

Funding Notes
The scholarships are for maximum 4 years and a background in chemical engineering especially catalysis, material science, physics or chemistry is preferred. The PhD-appointment is at salary code 1017, entry salary level 41 in the national salary scheme, gross NOK. 310 500 per annum (1 NOK ~ 0.125 EUR), of which 2% is deducted for the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund. Applications including a CV and academic transcripts should be sent to Prof. De Chen, NTNU, Department of Chemical Engineering, NO-7491 Trondheim, Norway as soon as possible and before 30.09.2006.
