Summer School for Transitional Justice

23 – 29 July 2006, Palic, Serbia

The regional Summer School for Transitional Justice will bring together university students and young professionals/NGO activists from Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Kosovo as well as international faculty and practitioners from the leading institutions such as the London School of Economics, New York Law School, Columbia University, and the International Center for Transitional Justice, for a five-day intensive course on transitional justice.

This year the School will explore the core transitional justice concepts and debates while contextualizing discussions with reference to the process of dealing with the legacy of mass atrocity in ex-Yugoslavia, including:

- Concepts, mechanisms and history of transitional justice
- International law and institutions and national trials
- Historical justice, truth-telling and civil society
- ICTY and domestic war crimes trials
- Reparative, restorative and symbolic approaches to justice
- Interactive simulation exercises

Eligible to apply:

- Undergraduate and postgraduate students or NGO activists under 30, fluent in English, with strong motivation to develop understanding of the concept of transitional justice and to pursue work in related academic or professional fileds in the region.

All travel and room-and-board costs of selected participants will be covered by the organizers.
