Soyuz is formally constituted as the Post-Communist Cultural Studies Interest Group of the American Anthropological Association (AAA) and is also recognized as an official unit of the American Association for the Advancement of Slavic Studies (AAASS). It is also more broadly conceived, first as a newsletter and now a website, as an international congeries of anthropologists and other scholars working in postsocialist studies. We gather at AAA and AAASS meetings in North America, various conferences in Europe, and here on the web to distribute information on our projects.

NOTE: The Soyuz list has traditionally been used for announcements and is NOT a discussion list. Please be considerate and limit your posts to announcements of new books, journals, calls for papers or funding opportunities. We are considering starting a Soyuz discussion list in the near future BUT membership on that list will be voluntary; current Soyuz list members will NOT be automatically subscribed to the
discussion list. I will send more information when the discussion list becomes available.
