The Economic Research Institute (IRE) of the University of Lugano (Switzerland) has a strong focus on regional and transport economics. The IRE opens applications for a position as a Ph. D. candidate in economics starting from the 1st January 2007.
We expect applications from candidates, who have successfully concluded their Master degree in economics or econometrics and a strong interest in applied research. The candidate will be fully involved in an applied research project in the National Research Programme 54 “Sustainable Development of the Built Environment”. The interdisciplinary project deals with the assessment of optimal investments to reduce
infrastructure disruption and vulnerability due to natural or man-made hazards.
The project is based on a pilot study focusing on the transportation infrastructures across the Alps. Your communication and writing skills in English are good, you are familiar with Italian and fit well in a small research team. Your principle tasks will be related to this research project and to the accomplishment of the Ph.D.
programme.
