CALL FOR YOUTH SEMÝNAR CALLED "Who is European "Citizen" and who is not?", Turkey

*Dear Friends,*

*
**We invite you to participate in the "Who is European "Citizen" and who is not?" Seminar which will take place in Turkey in July-2007. *

* *

*General Overview of the Project:*

The term 'European citizenship' is perceived as a condition by which people from different nations should have similar rights to be asserted vis-à-vis the European public courts and public officials. But citizenship is not only a legal status, defined by a set of rights and responsibilities. It is also an identity, an _expression of one's membership in a community. European citizenship is that citizenship rights were understood as special rights in the sense that they were special because they were meant for Europeans only.

European citizenship has become crucially important issue in recent years and one of the most important issues within the EU and in the candidate countries. The concept aims to develop the notion of a diverse and inclusive European citizenship and encourage active citizenship in young Europeans.

*So, the question is: "who is European Citizen and who is not*?"

This project aims at bringing together young people, workers, experts and youth leaders from Europe and program countries in a discussion about what European citizenship means to them and impart the knowledge, skills and understanding necessary for citizens to play effective roles in society at local, national and international level. Furthermore, the seminar aims to give partner organizations the opportunity to enhance exchange, partnership and co-operation. By discussing the experiences of the participants from different countries we hope to create chances to establish face-to-face contacts and discover new opportunities for further and long lasting relationships between different countries.

The seminar is planned to be a balanced mixture of both theory and case studies selected from everyday examples. We also hope to have the opportunity to exchange our experiences and create good networks that could work in the future.

The activities to be done will concern about the knowledge, skills and motivation of the participants. We believe that giving chance young people to show their desires and skills with other young people by sharing the same atmosphere and showing them that they can create new things even in a short period of time this project will encourage them to be more active in their real life.

We also believe that in today's circumstances bringing together the youth from different countries and different cultural backgrounds will contribute to peace will help eliminate prejudices and negative attitudes.
