General Information about Oberlin College

Oberlin College of Arts and Sciences is a leading liberal arts school located in Oberlin, OH, approximately 35 miles southwest of the city of Cleveland. Founded in 1833, it is an independent, coeducational institutional with nearly 50 academic major program. Although Oberlin is an entirely undergraduate institution, it boasts high-caliber facilities one would expect at larger university - a $65 million science complex, a revolutionary environmental studies center, one of the strongest art museums at the nation, and an exhaustive library system.

Oberlin is also home to a premier music conservatory that produced world-class musicians since 1863. The presence of the Conservatory, as well as stellar art, theatre, and dance program in the College have earned Oberlin a reputation as a haven for creative expression and encouragements of the arts. The environment that results from the symbiotic co-existence of a top-tier liberal arts college and preeminent music conservatory is unique to Oberlin.

International students at Oberlin come from fifty countries and have access to all programs available to American students, including campus employment. They are enrolled in a broad range of majors, and are employed in myriad occupations across the globe upon graduation.

The college`s location is a small town in the American Midwest is tempered by a high proportion of students from cities of the east and west coasts, and it has a higher representation of ethic diversity than many other similar colleges. Admission

Oberlin welcomes application from international students as either first-year or as transfer applicants. The application deadline for first-year Regular Decision is 15 January, and for transfer students is 15 March. It is wise to submit one`s application as early as possible, however, to ensure a timely evaluation.

All international students must complete a Common Application and the appropriate Oberlin College International Student Supplement Form.

International students must submit SAT I or ACT results. Oberlin does not require SAT II Subject Test but will gladly consider results should one choose to submit them.

Fluency in English is vital to one`s ability to make the most of an Oberlin education. Consequently, applicants for whom English is not a first language or language in which their secondary education has been conducted must submit results of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or other widely recognized tests (IELTS, Cambridge, MELAB).

Financial Aid

Oberlin is one of the few American colleges and universities privileged to offer financial aid to international students and pledges to meet 100% of demonstrated financial need for all admitted students - including transfers.

To apply for financial aid, international students must submit the International Student Financial Aid Application. Due to United States immigration regulations, all international students must submit an International Student Certification of Finances form. Both documents are available on Oberlin`s website.
