CfA: Internship, Minority Rights Group International (MRG)

Internship opportunity at MRGMinority Rights Group International (MRG) is looking for an intern for its Roma and South East Europe (SEE) programmes.

Main tasks would include:

- Research on issues relating to the EU enlargement policies in SEE
It would involve compilation and analytical work on the main documents structuring the EU relationship with the SEE countries, such as the EC Progress Reports, European Partnerships, Stabilisation and Association Agreements, etc.

- Research on laws and policies relating to Roma in SEE
It would involve compilation of various legal and policy documents relevant for the fulfillment of Roma rights in SEE, such as Roma-specific strategies and action plans; general national policies on housing, education, health care, employment; reports and decisions of human rights bodies; laws on minorities and anti-discrimination provisions dispersed throughout national legislations, etc. Focus countries would be Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Montenegro, Serbia. MRG is in a process of launching a Roma web portal. So far we have prepared references on Bulgaria and Macedonia. Following this model, the portal needs to be expanded to cover other countries in the region.

- Administrative and logistics tasks
It would involve helping to organise meetings, advocacy trips, putting together mailing lists etc.

Essential skills/qualificatio ns:

. Understanding of human rights and minority rights
. Understanding of how the EU works
. Understanding of the EU enlargement processes in SEE
. Very good English language skills

Desirable skills/qualificatio ns:

. Good knowledge of an SEE language and/or Romanes
. Experience of organising events, using databases

The intern would work at MRG's offices preferably part-time (with an option to work some days at home), for an initial period of 3 months, with an option to renew upon mutual agreement.
