Postdoctoral Associate - Biotechnology, University of Maryland, USA

Successful candidate will work in an interdisciplinary research team lead by Dr. Payne (http://www.umbi.umd.edu/CBR). The successful candidate will examine methods to; (i) interface proteins to microfabricated sensors, and (ii) transduce biological recognition into electrical, optical and mechanical signals. Specifically, chemical, electrochemical and/or biochemical methods will be used to interface the proteins and transduce their signals. The successful candidate will be responsible for: guiding her/his individual research project; providing advice to junior members of the lab; and assisting collaborators with specific experiments. The successful candidate will also be expected to communicate her/his results in oral and written forms.

Requirements: PhD in chemistry, physics, biochemistry, biophysics, materials science or engineering. Candidates must have experience in quantitative analysis and preferably have experience in one of the following areas: microfabrication, biosensors, electrochemistry or transport phenomena. Candidates must have published in English-language peer-reviewed journals of reasonable impact factor. Candidate must have good communication skills and enjoy working in teams. Candidates may be required to undergo a background check.
