The Center for Comparative and International Studies (CIS) at ETH Zurich seeks a PhD Student (60%) interested in writing his/her PhD thesis in the context of a project on water management in the Zambezi river basin.
Research area: Your PhD research will be part of a large interdisciplinary project that studies integrated water resources management in the Zambezi river basin
(http://www.zambezi. ethz.ch/twiki/ bin/view/ Zambezi). It will focus on issues of multi-level governance from a political science and economics viewpoint.
Your background: We are looking for a candidate who holds an MA/MSc in political science and/or economics. Ideally, applicants should have strong methodological skills in quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis, a keen interest in questions of political economy, good knowledge of political science, economic and political economy theories, and a strong command of English. Willingness and
ability to spend several months in southern Africa to collect data and interact with local project partners is essential.
What we offer: We offer the successful candidate an intellectually challenging position in one of the leading political science research centers in Europe, an exciting opportunity to engage in field research in southern Africa, and the prospects of obtaining a PhD degree from ETH Zurich (http://www.ib. ethz.ch/phd/ index). The position is funded for three years in the order of CHF 3’000.- / month. The advisors of the PhD thesis will be Prof. Thomas Bernauer (http://www.ib. ethz.ch) and Prof. Rolf Kappel (http://www.nadel. ethz.ch).
