Job description

Tasks
The Ph.D. student will use a custom-built, modern Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) system to deposit high-quality metal and metal-like layers. These layers will be patterned and characterized for their electrical properties, using in-situ and ex-situ measurements. The aim is to study electrical properties of conducting layers only a few nanometers thick, where quantum effects and morphology play a dominant role. Supervision will be given by experts in ALD and CVD, and experts in optical and electrical characterization of the University of Twente.

A M.Sc. (or equivalent) in (applied) physics, materials science or electrical engineering; proven affinity with microtechnology; good mastering of the English language; and good communication skills. Good study results and international experience are required.

The faculty is also responsible for a large volume of service education for programmes of other faculties. The faculty has approximately 300 permanent staff.

The faculty of EEMCS conducts BSc-programmes in Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science and Business Information Systems and MSc-programmes in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Applied Mathematics, Business Information Technology, Computer Science, Telematics, Human Media Interaction en Embedded Systems and is partner in various programmes of other faculties.

Conditions of employment

Estimated maximum salary per month: eur 2500 - 3000
Salaryscale 10.
Maximum salary amount in Euro's a month 2558
Employment basis: Temporary for specified period
Duration of the contract: 4 years
Maximum hours per week: 38



Additional conditions of employment:
The Ph.D. student will be appointed as a temporary employee of the University, for a period of four years with a salary starting at 2000 gross per month in the first year up to 2558,- in the last year.
