Postdoctoral Position: Epigenetic Regulation of Programmed Cell Death, Karolinska Instituet, Sweden

The Karolinska Institutet (www.ki.se ), founded in 1810 and is situated in the beautiful city of Stockholm, is one of Europes largest medical universities and contains commensurate resources and infrastructure. In addition, KI annually awards the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. A total of 600 research groups span the full spectrum of medical disciplines and includes 2,000 researchers, 1,000 technicians, and 2,300 postgraduate students from all parts of the world who take part in both basic and clinical research.

A postdoctoral position is available immediately in the laboratory of Dr. Bertrand Joseph at the Institute of Environmental Medicine, KI, to work on a project examining the role for histones modifications in regulating cancer cell response to DNA damages and programmed cell death. The aim of the project is to test the hypothesis that inhibition of histones tail modifying enzymes might leads to an epigenetic reprogramming of cancer cells as well as neuronal cells, with the modulation of expression of a specific set of genes that, in turn, could result in the activation of apoptotic cell death.

The position is initially for 1 year with a possible extension for 2 years, depending on the performance and progress of the project. Due to local scholarship regulations, candidates must have earned their PhD at a university outside of Sweden.

Qualifications:

Candidates should have an excellent track record and experience in standard molecular and cell biology techniques. Experience in epigenetic and/or cell death research are of advantage. We are searching for an experienced postdoc who can work independently. Candidates should be highly motivated, creative and capable of contributing productively as part of a team.

Application Details:

Interested applicants should forward a cover letter with summary of your research experience and aspirations, curriculum vitae, list of publications and the names, telephone numbers and e-mail addresses of several references to the e-mail address below.
