Postdoctoral Research Scientist - Cnidarian Neural Development - University of Bergen, Norway

The Sars Centre in Bergen (Norway) is offering one postdoctoral position for initially two years in the Cnidarian Neural Development group (Group Leader Fabian Rentzsch). The group is interested in the evolutionary origin of the nervous system and studies neural development and differentiation of the sea anemone Nematostella vectensis at the cellular and molecular level. Projects address the molecular basis of synapse and axon formation and the transcriptional control of the development of the apical sense organ. Molecular biology and biochemical techniques are used in combination with transgenesis to functionally address these subjects.

Applicants should have a strong interest in developmental biology and a solid background in molecular and/or cell biology. The position is available from November 2008, the start date is negotiable.

The Sars International Centre is a partner of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) and a department of Unifob, affiliated with the University of Bergen. The Centre is focused on basic research in marine molecular biology, developmental biology and evolution, through genetic and comparative studies of invertebrates and vertebrates.

Salary for Postdoctoral Researcher (code 8150) start at NOK 420.000 depending on seniority. Unifob has employee insurance and pension agreements and is an equal opportunity employer.
