Postdoctoral Research Associate - 3-D image reconstruction in diffuse optical tomography (DOT) - Dartmouth College, USA

Applications are invited for a Post-doctoral Research Associate position at the Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth College to work on 3-D image reconstruction in diffuse optical tomography (DOT). The position will be funded by an NIH grant for MRI-guided DOT for breast cancer imaging and MicroCT-guided fluorescence DOT for small animal imaging studies.

Work will involve numerical modeling of light transport in tissues (using finite element and boundary element methods with opportunities to explore meshless techniques), meshing, visualization, clinical data analysis and physiological interpretation. There will be access to 3T MRI, micro-CT and ultrasound systems as well as CW, frequency domain and time domain optical systems for breast and small animal imaging.

The biomedical computation and near-infrared research groups at Thayer provide a unique inter-disciplinary environment for collaborating with researchers and clinicians at the Dartmouth Medical School and the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. Opportunities for training in grant writing and teaching will be available.

Qualifications

Candidates must hold a PhD in biomedical engineering, medical physics, or related physical science discipline. Excellent English communication skills in speaking, reading and writing are required. Outstanding computer skills are required with Linux, C, C++ and MATLAB. Experience in finite element programming, mesh creation, 3D manipulation and visualization would be beneficial.

Candidates are expected to work on the project as well as develop the skills to apply for their own funding. Publishing, conference travel and collaboration with medical colleagues are all an integral part of this position.

Funding will depend upon experience and be based around the NIH post-doctoral pay scales.
