GRADUATE PROGRAM IN MEDIEVAL STUDIES
AT CENTRAL EUROPEAN UNIVERSITY
Now is the time for your students to apply to the CEU Department of Medieval Studies. Central European University is an American- and Hungarian-accredite d university offering MA and PhD degrees. The faculty is recruited internationally; the language of instruction is English.
The Department of Medieval Studies is a prominent regional center for interdisciplinary studies of late antique, Western, Central and East European, Byzantine, Islamic, and Ottoman cultures (ca. A.D. 300-1550). Students undertake research on historical, art historical, philological, philosophical, archaeological and other topics. The department is strong in its offerings of classical languages (Latin, Greek, Old Church Slavonic), plus other languages such as Arabic. The interdisciplinary and international character of the Medieval Studies Department creates a unique scholarly environment for which our rapidly growing international reputation and wide network of alumni/ae testify.
We offer three post-graduate degrees: One-Year MA, Two-Year MA, and PhD. Financial
aid is available for all programs and a free TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) exam is organized once a year. Our PhD and Two-Year YMA degrees are accredited both in the US (Middle States Commission on Higher Education, one of the six most important accrediting agencies in the US) and in Hungary. The One-Year MA degree is accredited only in the US (Middle States Commission on Higher Education, one of the six most important accrediting agencies in the US).

The application deadline for students who wish to take the CEU-organized TOEFL is January 25, 2010. The TOEFL exams are given in each country of the region in March; consult the website for information concerning your country. March 16, 2010,
is the deadline for submitting complete application packages (if the CEU TOEFL score is not needed) for all programs.
