The positions concern research in data management technologies that aim to allow energy distribution infrastructures to manage higher amounts of renewable energy and to better balance supply and demand. The production of renewable energy depends on external factors such as wind and sunlight. Hence, available energy from renewable sources can only be predicted, not planned, This renders it challenging for energy
distributors to efficiently accommodate renewable energy sources.
The research will explore the use of so-called micro requests for controlling demand and supply at the level of individual households. The research calls for advanced, distributed aggregation of requests as well as novel forecasting techniques. Key technology areas include: cloud and distributed computing, real-time data warehousing, sensor and stream data management, indexing, and query processing.
