ecpr - Standing Group on the European Union Third Pan-European Conference on EU Politics

21 to 23 September 2006, Istanbul, Turkey

Organized by the ECPR Standing Group on the European Union
UPDATED 20 December 2005--Pre-conference Information

The ECPR Standing Group on the European Union is organizing its Third Pan-European Conference. It will be hosted by Bilgi University in Istanbul, Turkey from 21 to 23 September 2006. The Standing Group's Pan-European Conferences are the largest academic conferences on the European Union in Europe and bring together scholars from all over the world.

We call for panel and paper proposals on all aspects of European integration, governance, and politics. With the admission of ten new members in 2004, the EU entered a new phase. However, given the failure of the Constitutional Treaty in 2005 and current conflicts on the EU budget and policies, uncertainty about the prospects of European integration and the future direction of the EU is widespread. Empirical analyses and theoretical reflections that address these issues are therefore particularly welcome.

The Conference will have seven general sections covering major fields of current research on the EU as well as an open section for cross-cutting and interdisciplinary themes.

Theories of European Integration
EU Institutions and Politics
Political Economy of the European Union
EU Law and Policies
Gender and European Integration
EU Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy
Foreign Policy and External Relations
Open Section

We will accept proposals both for individual papers and whole panels (with a maximum of four paper givers). Proposals must be made on-line using the conference website http://www.jhubc.it/ecpr-istanbul.

Closing date is 28 February 2006. The preliminary program will be published in mid-April.
