Gladly, the Training Course on “Environmental Consciousness and Youth” which will take place in Kuþadasý / Turkey in April 2006 has been accepted. Damage to the environment has been growing steadily worse in recent decades. Every year, some 2 billion tones of waste are produced in the Member States, while C02 emissions from homes and vehicles are increasing, as is our consumption of "dirty" energy. The quality of life for people living in Europe, especially in urban areas, has declined considerably because of pollution, noise and vandalism. Protection of the environment is therefore one of the major challenges facing Europe. It is now
recognised that the European model of development cannot be based on the depletion of natural resources and the deterioration of our environment. We still have an individual and collective national identity.
However, as not only every global player but also every consumer in the supermarket and every car-driver is today a global actor, so it is imperative to develop a global awareness.
In this training course, we are going to try to explain the European environmental policy, objectives and the principles of the European Union. What have been done in terms of environmental integration is another subject that will be included within the course. And the role of the civil society and non governmental organizations in international environmental policy will be on our agenda. We are going to use formal and non-formal education tools with an intercultural dimension.
The course will be on 7-12 April 2006. 7th April is arrival and 13th April is departure days-(you are expected to be in Kuþadasý in the morning on 7th April). We will stay at a hotel in the center of Kuþadasý. English is the official language.
We cover the accommodation only for the days of the event (7-12 April 2006) and % 70 of the travel costs will be covered. Please try to arrange your journey in the most economical manner possible (APEX tickets, student fee, etc). Participation fee is 50 Euro. 1 participant or 2 participants will join from each organization. As the number of applicants is very high we have to make a selection. We will give info about the travel after we finalize the participants list.
Attached to this email, I am sending you a confirmation sheet for the participants and Part 3 for the organization which must be filled in by the participant and sent back to by e-mail and fax before 25th February, so as to decide the participants and carry out administrative work.
We are going to give more info about programme and the travel as soon as all the participants send their confirmation sheets. Please don’t forget to send the estimated travel costs. The nearest airport to Kuþadasý is Ýzmir. We will meet you at the airport and then take you to the hotel. The maximum travel cost should be 450 Euro.
