Field Studies in Greece

Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to send you updated material for the Kefalonia Program, an applied studies abroad curriculum in sustainable community development. The program is sponsored by Huxley College of the Environment, Western Washington University, in partnership with AHA International, an academic unit of the University of Oregon. We are now accepting applications for spring and fall 2006.

Hosted on the Greek Ionian island of Kefalonia, the 11-week interdisciplinary program is designed for undergraduates and graduate students interested in the fields of sustainable design, urban planning, environmental studies, landscape design and architecture, geography, natural resources management, community
development, social anthropology and economic development.

Students enrolled in the 5-course, 16 credit-hour program develop sustainable development policies for the island as well as redevelopment plans for "Blue Village," our Venetian-era case study community. Students work closely with community representatives to develop design alternatives for the reconstruction of this once sustainable community while preserving the historic and social
integrity of the traditional community. The Kefalonia Program provides students an ideal learning environment for applied studies in sustainable development within an international cultural and policy context.
