Oral History methods workshop in San Francisco

Hello all,

LEGACY sponsors a three-day comprehensive training workshop in oral history project design, ethics/legal issues, interviewing and editing, technology, and cross-cultural issues. The workshop is intended to support multiple disciplinary use of the oral history method, although our organization's primary focus is recording and preserving the performing arts. Beginners are most welcome. Those interested in the history of dance, theater and music would be welcome to explore the research facility.

The location is the San Francisco Performing Arts Library & Museum in the Civic Center, convenient from public transportation in many directions. Instructors are myself, Dr. Jeff Friedman (currently faculty at Rutgers University) and Basya Petnick, Program Manager and experienced oral historian and journalist.

The dates of the workshop are July 6, 7 and 8. Full days include lectures, discussion and practice sessions. A comprehensive syllabus is included in the workshop fee of $300 before June 1 and $350 after. Space is limited to 16 participants, with some scholarships available.

Contact LEGACY's manager, Basya Petnick at legacy@sfpalm.org for more information on registration and other details.

Thanks for your consideration,
Jeff Friedman Ph.D.
