CfA: PhD Program for Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe launched

The Foundation for the History of Technology (The Netherlands) has launched a new initiative to stimulate research in the field of history of technology. Five PhD students at the Charles University Prague (Czech Republic) and the University of Plovdiv (Bulgaria) will get the opportunity to participate in international research projects.

The objective is to incorporate research from those regions into larger, ongoing research projects focused on transnational European history, in particular the role of technology in constructing European society and culture. The general areas of research are:
(a)infrastructures (two positions),
(b) consumption (two positions), and
(c) tourism and mobility (1 position).

Successful candidates will be fully supported for four years and complete the PhD degree at Eindhoven University of Technology (The Netherlands), with nostrification in Prague or Plovdiv. Interested candidates are invited to apply. The deadline for appilcations is October 27, 2006.
