3 Fellowships in Physical chemistry (Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas, Greece)

Three (2 experimental and 1 theory) EC funded postdoctoral positions are available at the Institute of Electronic Structure and Laser at FORTH as part of the Marie Curie Host Fellowship for Transfer of Knowledge (ToK) program NANOTAIL, “Hybrid nanocrystals exhibiting advanced and tailored properties”.

The overall objective of the project is to design and develop new multi-functional nanocrystal systems, to understand their formation, their assembly and their properties (optical, magnetic, electrical) with the aim to uncover a highly advanced class of technologically-oriented nanoscale materials. Such optimized nanomaterials can be directly embedded and boost the yield of modern broadly disseminated technologies, ranging from distributed light emission and ultra-fast magneto-optical data recording to energy storage/production, electro-optical interconnects and biological sensing/labeling. The project will fortify and fine-tune your skills via cooperation and exchange of ideas (involving a variety of world-class expertise i.e. chemical synthesis, surface functionalization, ab-initio theoretical modeling and advanced microscopy techniques) with Partner Institutes at:

- National Nanotechnology Laboratory, CNR, Lecce (ITALY);
contact person: Dr. Liberato Manna (liberato.manna@unile.it)

- Centre d'Elaboration de Materiaux et d'Etudes Structurales, CNRS, Toulouse (FRANCE);
contact person: Dr. Etienne Snoeck (snoeck@cemes.fr)

Salary, Terms, Eligibility:
The salary will be approximately €41,000 per annum + mobility allowances. The positions are available from 15 January 2007 or as soon as possible thereafter, with duration 1-2 years each.
Applications are open to citizens from within EU member or associated states. Women and minority groups are particularly encouraged to apply. For eligibility criteria see Chapter 5 of the Marie Curie Fellows for Transfer of Knowledge (ToK) Handbook [2].
