Invitation for Simulation of International Negotiation

Center for Development of Civil Society MilenijuM invites students that have good knowledge of English language from Universities in Tetovo to apply for participation in a Simulation of International Negotiation entitled:

“REGIONAL COOPERATION IN SOUTH-EAST EUROPE“

The simulation will take place in TETOVO, MACEDONIA, ON 27. – 29. OCTOBER 2006.

The event will aim to recreate the process of a genuine international negotiation based upon real events targeting regional cooperation in South-East Europe.

Center for Development of Civil Society MilenijuM has started the project “Start Negotiating” in order to enable students to develop the necessary skills in order to contribute to sensitive dialogue within southeast Europe by participating and organising a series of safe, profound, intercultural discussions through local and international negotiation simulation events.

The aim of the project is to introduce students, on interesting way, through experiential learning, in to techniques and skills of negotiations and diplomatic skills, which can be used in intercultural communication on different levels.

Negotiation simulation events are a tried and tested means of allowing students to learn through experiencing, especially through viewing matters from alternative perspectives by having to role-play the real life situations.



The specific aims of the negotiation simulation events are:

Demonstration of dialogue as a tool for problem resolution
Intercultural dialogue between students
Development of peer and non-formal education
Strengthening the role of students in the University learning process
Contributing to the development of University education


Students will represent national delegations with specific roles within the delegations. All participants will by playing the role of a nationality other than their own. Through this process it is hoped that the participants will gain an understanding of the mechanics and skills involved in complex international negotiations. In addition, the students will learn something about the economic and political issues involved, and about the need for cooperation between various actors to achieve domestic and international goals.

The students that will take part in the simulation of international negotiation event will have the opportunity to share the acquired knowledge and experience with their colleagues.

Students how were participating on First International Negotiation Simulation event in the region, now have a chance to organise local negotiation simulation event which will be mentored by the project team, but also by the professors from their Universities and the best among them will have the opportunity to organise international negotiation simulation.

Simulation is open for students that have good knowledge of English language from any department or faculty and from any year of study at Universities in Tetovo.

Selection will be based purely on academic ability, attitude to the process and level of commitment to involvement in the programme. Therefore no reference will be made to issues such as gender, ethnicity, religion or economic background.

The number of participants is limited.
