Job description

The research, placed in the 6th Framework Program of the European Commission, concerns innovative developments in the design, production and application of gypsum plasterboards in lightweight steel structures. The research focuses on the development of mixes containing anhydrite/hemi- hydrate/cement binders, admixtures, aggregates, fillers, photo-catalytic materials, fibers etc. These mixes are based on ideas recently developed by the research group. An important aspect is the particle size distribution of the mix, from several mm to the nanometre range. Based on underlying theory, European building codes, and the construction industry's needs, new types of plasterboard will be developed. The study will also include research, evaluation and application of alternative ingredients and smart components. Besides this, the successful candidate will develop new measurement and processing techniques. Unit operations such as mixing, spraying etc an integral part of the research project. Products will be developed that meet the current trends in raw
materials use, production techniques, working conditions, fire safety, aesthetics etc. One PhD will focus on the fresh mix properties and production (vacancy number 06/091), the other one the hardening process and the properties of the hardened product (vacancy number 06/092).
