EPSRC Industrial CASE PhD Studentship
The application of Positioning and Geospatial Intelligence Technology for real-time in-situ reporting and monitoring for environmental management

Centre for Geospatial Science & Centre for Environmental Management with SciSys

An EPSRC Industrial PhD CASE studentship with SciSys is available to conduct research into the application of positioning technologies (e.g. GPS), and geospatial intelligence technology for real-time in-situ reporting and monitoring for environmental management. The research builds on existing programmes within the three partner organisations and their knowledge of the scientific and commercial state of the art. The research will investigate the potential for combining mobile
phone-based accurate positioning and timing, high-quality digital photography and broad-band mobile communications with improved spatial search and image analysis technology, so that both experts and lay people can record and report environmental management information about infrastructure, biodiversity or ambient environmental conditions.

The work will be funded for 3 years with a provisional start date of 1st March 2008, although this is negotiable. The successful candidate will be expected to spend 3 months placement within the SyiSys. This Studentship will cover tuition fees at the UK/EU rate and provide a tax-free stipend of £14,600 p.a.
