Postdoctoral Position in Statistics / Informetrics - INRA (National Institute of Agronomic Research), France

Laboratory: INRA (National Institute of Agronomic Research) Lereco, Nantes, in cooperation with OST (Observatory of Science and Techniques), Paris

Post-doctoral position in statistics/ informetrics

Subject: Textual statistics - method to build an efficient lexical summary of a scientific corpus. Application to a corpus of 120,000 articles in genomics.

The position takes place in the context of the CSTG research project, supported by the French Agency ANR, aiming at the construction and economic analysis of a body of scientific/technical literature in genomics. INRA, OST, ADIS (Paris-XI Jean Monnet University) are part of the consortium.

The informetric folder of the project is part of a research line on hybrid methods of delineation and mapping of scientific literature, associating lexical and citation approaches. It opens many applications in issues of query expansion and portability and, albeit focused on textual statistics, has some connections with ontology building and citation analysis.

The subject involves an in-depth lexical characterization of a corpus (namely, obtained by hybrid methods and not only lexical queries), based on a statistical comparison with a general scientific vocabulary. The method yielding an optimum summary, under query structure and size constraints, will be tested on a sample and extended to the full corpus. The development is meant to have a quite general range.

Candidate profile:

The applicant must have a PhD or equivalent in mathematics or computer science, with a strong background in statistics and probability. Experience in information retrieval, textual statistics and data-mining would be appreciated. Standard tools: SAS, Oracle.

Location: Nantes (2h from Paris)
Duration: 9 months, 1850 Euros/month
