In May 2007, the Weidenfeld Institute for Strategic Dialogue (WISD) had the pleasure of launching its Leadership Programme and Scholarship Scheme. The Weidenfeld Scholarships offer exceptional postgraduate students and young professionals primarily from Eastern Europe, Russia, Central Asia, North Africa and the Middle East the opportunity to pursue graduate studies at Oxford University and to participate in a comprehensive programme of leadership development, with access to senior figures from the public and private sectors.
Following an intensive selection process, the 2007-2008 Weidenfeld Scholarships were awarded to seventeen extraordinary young people from twelve countries including Azerbaijan, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Egypt, Kyrgyzstan and Lebanon, in a wide range of subjects ranging from Law and Finance to Environmental Management and Anthropology. The inaugural Weidenfeld Scholars commenced their graduate studies at Oxford in October 2007.
The programme is expected to select up to 35 Scholars for the 2008-2009 academic year. In our efforts to promote the Weidenfeld Scholarships and to widen the pool of candidates for 2008-2009, we are asking friends and colleagues around the world to circulate the attached information to relevant professional networks.
We also now have limited places available for early to mid-career professionals in government and the civil service from the US, as well as from Western Europe.
Enclosed please find additional information about eligibility and how to apply for the programme. [attachment deleted, moderator of BAN]
Please keep in mind that the deadline for applications for academic year 2008-2009 to the Weidenfeld Scholarships (as well as to most Oxford Departments) is January 18th, 2008.
