The research group of Prof. Petri Pihko at the Department of Chemistry, University of Jyvaskyla, Finland, is seeking postdoctoral research associates who are interested in the chemical synthesis of complex targets. The Pihko Group has recently moved to Jyväskylä from Helsinki University of Technology (TKK).
Three different positions and research topics are currently available. In all positions, the candidate is expected to work in a project team consisting of at least 2-3 people. The positions and the projects, funded by the Academy of Finland, are listed below:
1) Total synthesis of pectenotoxin-2
2) Novel organocatalytic strategies based on redox chemistry.
3) Novel organocatalytic strategies for enolate chemistry.
The successful candidate should have, or be about to obtain, a Ph.D. in synthetic organic chemistry and preferably have a background in total synthesis or method development. The position is available for one year initially, with a possibility for extension to two years.
The University of Jyvaskyla is a vibrant research community. The Science Campus is located on a beautiful lakeside location, within a walking distance from the city centre. The Organic Chemistry Laboratories at the Department offer excellent modern laboratories and state-of-the-art analytical services (including 500 MHz NMR, several X-ray units) The university will be able to assist in finding suitable accommodation, including family housing.
