CfP: Housing in Hard Times: Class, Poverty and Social Exclusion 2011

Housing in Hard Times: Class, Poverty and Social Exclusion

University of York
Wednesday 13th – Friday 15th April 2011

The economic downturn and its consequences have resulted in hard times for UK housing, as the crisis has moved through the housing market into the wider social policy arena. This conference provides an opportunity to reflect on research and policy analysis concerning the wider implications of economic change, with a specific focus on concepts of class, poverty and social exclusion. The event will interrogate the impact of economic shifts on the most vulnerable
members of society, whatever their housing tenure. Plenary speakers from the housing studies community and beyond will offer different perspectives on the conference theme.

Confirmed speakers include:

• Professor Chris Allen, Manchester Metropolitan University
• Professor Ian Cole, Sheffield Hallam University
• Professor Chris Hamnett, King’s College London
• Andy Milne, Chief Executive, Scottish Urban Regeneration Forum
• Dr Gerry Mooney, Open University
• Dr Kirsteen Paton, University of Glasgow
• A speaker from Shelter

Papers are welcome from academics and practitioners in housing and
related disciplines. A call for papers will be issued in the autumn of
2010.

Further details will appear on the Housing Studies web site:
