PhD Studentship Chemistry (University of Freiburg, Germany)

A PhD position (BAT IIa/2 50%) starting from 1st July 2006 (1st October 2006 at the latest) is available in the research group of Prof. Ingo Krossing at the Institute of Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry, University of Freiburg. This project is funded by the DFG priority program SPP 1191: “Ionic Liquids” and aims to understand the origins of the fundamental physical properties of ionic liquids and provide ways of predicting these properties for unknown salts.

The project will involve the synthesis and analysis of high-purity ionic liquids (ILs), X-ray crystallography, quantum chemical calculations and the development of new theoretical models. The successful applicant will also oversee the building and installation of new equipment for in-situ crystallisations of low melting point materials on our X-ray diffractometer. Ongoing collaborations will ensure that the successful applicant has contact with industry and other academic institutions during the project.
