The Centre for Research in Vascular Biology (CRVB) in the Biosciences Institute, UCC is a programme focused on novel vascular biology concepts exploring
fundamental questions in cardiovascular biology including progenitor cell biology. This programme has recently relocated from the Mayo Clinic (www.crvb.eu). The programme encompasses basic molecular and cell biology related to atherosclerosis and a range of cardiovascular diseases including myocardial infarction. Experimental studies encompass rodent and porcine models of coronary, pulmonary vascular and myocardial remodeling. Additional expertise includes cell therapy, novel device development and tissue engineering.
Applications are invited for a PhD studentship funded by the Health Research Board of Ireland to study primitive vascular progenitor cells in the context of experimental and human models of atherosclerosis. The student will work as part of a multidisciplinary team encompassing diverse aspects of cell, molecular biology, immunology and stem cell biology.
Salary �13,000 per annum plus fees
Applicants should have � or expect to receive in 2006 � a first or upper second class honours degree in a biomedical science discipline.
