Research Assistant in Language sciences (University of Dublin, Trinity College, Ireland)

This research project is commissioned and funded by Comhairle na Gaelscolaíochta, the Council for Irish-medium Education, which was established by the NI Department of Education in 2000 with a remit to promote, facilitate and encourage Irish-medium education in Northern Ireland . The project involves an investigation of the impact of social network theory on the socio-linguistic behavior (attitudinal and use) of young people attending second level schools in which they are being taught through a second or minority language. It is envisaged that the research will examine international best practice, and part of the research will be carried out in association with the Universities of Barcelona and North Wales . Prof. Ó Riagáin is the Principal Investigator.

Duties
The Research Assistant will prepare position papers summarising current and recent research findings relating to (a) the influence of social networks on adolescent attitudes and behaviour and, (b) the influence of social neworks on patterns of language use among bilingual adolescents.
Candidates for this post should have:
Good primary degree in sociology or a related area of the social sciences (essential) Previous academic work on social networks, sociology of language, research methodology, or statistics desireable, but not essential.
