PhD student (m/f)

The Department of Medical Statistics and Bioinformatics is looking for a PhD student to participate in the ZonMW TOP programme Prognostic modelling and dynamic prediction for competing risks and multi-state models. Your work will involve developing novel statistical methods for the analysis of competing risks and multi-state models. Among the new methods to be explored are mixture-modelling of competing risks, classification and regression trees (CART) for competing risks, and the incorporation of frailties in multi-state models. You will work alongside a scientific programmer in order to implement the newly developed methods. Teaching in the medical school will also form a part of your work.

Requirements

University Graduate
We are seeking a candidate with a Master’s degree in Mathematics or a Master’s degree in Statistics and a strong affinity for mathematics. You have experience with programming languages, including statistical programming languages, and are a creative and flexible researcher. Good communication skills in both written and spoken English are also essential and you will be expected to present your findings in a PhD thesis.

The Medical Statistics Section of the Department of Medical Statistics and Bioinformatics is the largest medical statistics research group in the Netherlands. Its work focuses on the development and improvement of statistical methods for medical research and on statistical consulting for researchers in the LUMC, and
research into clinical research methodology, statistical genetics and bioinformatics.

Conditions of employment

Estimated maximum salary per month: eur 1500 - 2000

Maximum salary amount in Euro's a month 1937
Employment basis: Temporary for specified period
Duration of the contract: 4 years
Maximum hours per week: 36

Additional conditions of employment:

You will be employed on the basis of a 36-hour week. Appointment is for four years. Your salary will depend on your qualifications and experience, with a maximum of €1,937 gross per month in the first year, increasing to a maximum of €2,482 gross per month in the fourth year (scale for trainee research assistants, Collective Labour Agreement for University Hospitals).
